The Rouge River posed a problem in the development of satellite mapping in that if the satellite’s eye was programmed to recognize the Rouge as water, it would no longer recognize any other body of water on Earth. This river, like others, if not a bit more, was turned into a sewer for human utilization of the land. The poem "Holograms of Dawn," was born on the Rouge, and, as in Sam Cooke’s song, has been running ever since in the everyday stream of irregularly aligned catastrophes of perception in our toxic natality. This is a poetry of the post-industrial hinterland of Northern capital, weaving words from revolutionary workers' movements, rhetorics of ecologic remediation, and witness of violence past and present. “Holograms of Dawn” reaches from private and public everyday places toward rebirth of the perceptual world.
