Mae Callahan is grieving her mother's death. She is devastated when she learns that her brother has donated their mother's beloved Irish heirloom sweater to charity. Using her social work investigatory skills, Mae discovers that the sweater has been given to a homeless woman named Billie. She combs the streets of Milwaukee in hopes of finding Billie and recovering the green cardigan. Their paths eventually cross and the sweater becomes a conduit for the two women to face their individual issues of loss and to forge a unique friendship.
